Your trade mark is one of your most valuable business assets — one that can outlast any individual product or service. Without registration, however, it has no legal protection. This guide covers how to register a trade mark in Turkey, the current 2026 fees and the critical points to watch.
Without a registered trade mark, you cannot effectively prevent competitors from using the same or a similar name or logo through legal channels. Registration enables you to block competitors, generate franchise or licensing income and sell your brand as a commercial asset.
A comprehensive search before filing significantly reduces the risk of rejection. Free searches can be conducted on TÜRKPATENT's EPATS system. The assessment should cover not only identical marks but also phonetic, visual and conceptual similarities.
Nice Classification classes 1–34 cover goods; classes 35–45 cover services. Selecting the wrong class leaves your mark exposed to competitors.
Example: A FinTech company that registers only in class 35 (commercial management) and overlooks class 36 (financial services) may find a competitor legally using the same mark for financial services.
Applications are filed online through TÜRKPATENT's EPATS system. The application date — which determines priority — only becomes fixed once the application fee is paid.
TÜRKPATENT examines the application for formal requirements and absolute grounds for refusal. If no issues arise, the mark is published in the Official Trade Marks Bulletin. Third parties have two months from publication to file an opposition.
If no opposition is filed or an opposition is rejected, the mark is registered. Protection runs for 10 years from the application date and is renewable.

Important: Evidence in trade mark infringement cases can disappear quickly. Taking legal action the moment infringement is discovered is decisive for both evidence preservation and damages claims.
